I am currently trying to search good sites to find good blogger networks. One good place to start is boards.ie. There is good forums for groups to meet, find one another through common topics and there is also the option of starting a new thread by posting a new subject. I have already found one Dublin 15 group to post related blog content about. The moment that I posted a thread about my next Northside Open Coffee on the group forum, a minute later I got a quick reply back. This is easier and quicker to promote your own event than say getting Mulley to give you a fluffy link. Another option is to comment on other blog pages. This is one way to build up a rapport with another blogger but it is time consuming also. I intend to start to focus on using my Facebook fan page to allow people on these pop networks to access my content easily so therefore bringing mu content to them rather than the other way around.

Dublin City Enterprise summer network event
Sunday, June 14th, 2009It is amazing what a few networking events can do for your confidence.
I attended a Dublin city enterprise networking event yesterday evening in the Mont Clare Hotel in Pearse St.
The event was the Annual summer event and the guest keynote speaker was non other than Fred Caballero of Channelship web agency who talked about the importance of using Twitter as a business tool. The event was only open to members of the DCEB Twitter and Link'd in network as well as Dublin City Enterprise for women and Link! Business Network.
This event had a very different structure and feel to the other Networking events that I have attended including my own Northside Open Coffee Dublin.
The O.C event is more an informal atmosphere with lots of chairs and tables to sit around while this event I attended was a lot more crowded and harder to identify interesting contacts as there was not enough time for presentations.
Luckily I bumped into a close friend of mine, Christian Kortenhorst of CK Computer Solutions, who gave me some much needed tips and advice on my own project on this blog.
Christian is a very good person for any PC or software related problems to tlak to. I also got to network with Michael K. Spratt of RapidBusinessGrowth.ie, Ann Kelsey of Econatural.ie and Fintan Smyth of Paradise Lane.ie who specializes in niche household items such asart, boutique furniture, tea and antiquities.
More specific to my business, I met Ken O'Connor of 'Map my business Ltd' who works closely with the Fingal community in Malahide where his Business is based and he takes quite an active community resident role. I talked to Ken about the role of mapping in social media as a tool for users to connect online, to find each others location and as a real time search news and broadcast tool for mobiles. I plan to use Google Wave, Latitude and or Maps as a extension tools for community reporting for my site in the future and as I plan to expand into the Fingal region in the future.
Finally, I met Brendan O'Neill of 'T-Shirt King Ireland' at the door of the actual event as I registered. Brendan is quite impressive as i Later discovered when I met him in that he has found a niche in the college as a graduate student market to sell branded clothes as a competitor to the main college merchandise supplier themseves by offering a better price. Talk about efficient market economies! That young student has a bright future ahead of himself as he looks to China to import bulk supplies at a cheaper cost.
Daily digest: tips on using Twitter for Business
Monday, June 8th, 2009Here is a few handy tips that I got from my current mentor with Fingal Enterprise Board Krishna De.
Some ways for businesses to practically use Twitter as a communication tool may be;
-Create a twitter page account for your business/company.
-follow industry representatives/relevant people for new staff.
-follow other people to make conversaton and future contacts.
-be followed and approve appropiate people/companies to be contacted, make contacts and spead viral marketing plans.
-use Twitter as a communication broadcasting tool.
-Use Twitter to search for what groups of people are talking about, and find a product for that service.
-Use Twitter to locate certain groups and find out what they are saying. Therefore, you can begin a sort of conversational talk as a chat facilitator, not to promote yourself directly, but rather as to give an extra tip or link to give to others. This is a more organic method of web 2.0 sales and marketing.
-A Twitter gets more real time search, people can find what to the moment what groups of people are talking about, and if it is your product.
-Use additional 3rd party application tools for Twitter as services to add to a company armoury such as 'Twission'. This is 'an extension to Twitter search that shows the degrees of seperation between you and the people in thre results'. The page then automatically refreshes as each incoming Tweet (term for Twitter text) arrives down in each new row.
-Again use Twitter in a private secure Intranet in a corporate setting, to announce company news, recruitment, competitions, events and staff of the month, links to another site or company page for tutorial. The possibilities really are endless. I know that I use Twitter for any of my Northside OpenCoffee events coming up on my site.
Open Coffee Dakota May 16th
Sunday, May 31st, 2009I am really getting into this 'Open Coffee' thing now.
My last Northside Open Coffee was at Northern Cross Hilton Hotel, on the Malahide Road. Previously, I had it at Borders Bookstore in the Blanchardstown Centre.
After a while, going to these Open Coffee events, you start to get to know and meet the same old faces who attend these events regularly and make really good contacts for links and potential work referrals. It is also a good way to get some work part-time if you are unemployed through word of mouth, a great way to network, find ideas for businesses and on a personal level, improve self confidence in meeting others.
I plan to have the next Northside coffee event Sat June 27th at 10.30 am. I will keep you updated on the venue. Do come along!
I hope to see lots of O.C members there.
Northside Open Coffee Sat 30th May
Thursday, May 28th, 2009That coffee sure looks good!
The next North side Open Coffee is May 30th at the Hilton hotel, at the Northern Cross junction, on the Malahide Road.
New people are welcome to come along, bring as many guests as possible. There is no membership fee, or entrance fee. Just bring yourself, your business cards if you have them and maybe a little memo note if you feel like giving a little pitch or presentation. I will have my laptop there with my Northside O.C screensaver for those of you who dont know anybody.
