There is something so relaxing about the '12th Lock' bar.
Perhaps it is the feeling of sitting by the big open fire, watching the big logs crackling in the fireplace as the fiery heat warms the deep cockles of your heart. Excuse me for being a little poetic, but certain times require certain measures.
This is no exception. The '12th lock' is a real winner in my books due to its unique location, i.e that it is located on the royal canal, near both Castleknock and Blanchardstown, is accessible, and one can walk down by the river to get there. It is a great venue for sporting events; the place is always packed for football games with its close atmospheric feeling and large wide screen plasma T.V capturing all the action.
There is a hotel attached to the actual bar/restaurant so it is a suitable venue for late night events such as weddings, and functions for wary travelers to rest their tired bones. The venue is a modern mix of business for those morning meetings and traveler cafe culture for our more cosmopolitan friends. It is inspired by the European cafe culture in Amsterdam and has an interesting mix of cafe bistro (Dam sq), bar (12th Lock) and the actual hotel. The name is taken from the main square in Amsterdam, continuing the theme of canal and barges which flows around the building and surrounds. Outside, the terrace bar is perfect for those late summer days/evenings to relax and soak in the scene and atmosphere.
