Election results round up
It was celebration's all round for the Socialist party and it's main party leader Joe Higgins as Dublin 15 voted in favour of the left of centre party and its policies.
In total, both opposition parties to the main party currently in power, Fianna Fail, , Labour and the Socialist's reflected the Irish public's feeling about how the economy in the country is going.
Both of the opposition parties to FF walked to vistory with 3 seats between them in Mulhuddart Council Ward.
The Socialist Party sitting Councillor, Ruth Coppinger commented after her vistory that the result was 'a verdict on what is being done to local people'.
The other main surprise was Fianna Gael taking a seat for the first time in 1991 in the Mulhuddart ward with Kieran Dennison polling 12.3% of first preference votes. Labour councilor Michael O'Donovan retained his seat with 1696 votes, while his running mate, Patrick Nulty, topped the poll with 1898 first preference votes.
Castleknock Educate Together celebrate Summer fair fun
This years annual Summer Fair fundraising event for the community school running costs in aid of Castleknock Educate Together will celebrate international cultures.
The event will be held on June 21st, the longest day of the year, to coincide with Father's Day. Last year, the school raised a fantastic 7,000 Euros and hope to exceed that amount this year. According to a Educate spokesperson at the school, 'For children, there will be workshops and bouncy castles. We try to get folks involved so there will be a woman from Pakistan giving tattoos, African woman offering hair beading, and other fun games. We have 32 nationalities at the school, which is something that we are very proud of'.
Roderic O'Gorman fails to take Castleknock seat.
Roderic O'Gorman, the Green Party representative for the Castleknock ward, failed to take the Fingal county council seat in the local elections.
However, O'Gorman was very gracious in his defeat, thanking all of his canvessing team and supporters in his local election's camapign. 'I want to thank all those who voted for me in Friday's local elections in the Castleknock ward', O'Gorman wrote on his site last week. He added 'Obviously, I am deeply disappointed that I failed to win the seat on this occassion. I take comfort in the fact that I almost doubled my share of first preference votes, and on the final count ,I was only 600 votes short of taking a seat'.
He went on to say that 'I think the fact that the Green party failed to win any seats in Fingal county council is worrying. The need for proper planning is the reason that I stood for Election in the first place and I intend to continue on this and other issues as a member of my party over the next few years'.
Farmleigh to host a range of international music this summer
Farmleigh is set to host a major concert featuring south American musicians this July.
The concert will showcase the two South American guitarist Alec O'Leary and clarinettist, Deirdre O'Leary. This will be in homage to two great South American musicians Laurindo Almeida and Astor Piazzolla.
The concert is to take place on July 1st at 8pm. Tickets are available at Farmleigh.ie.
Luttrellstown Hosts Golf Classic
Luttrellstown Golf Club recently played host to a recent outing for Dublin 15 Chamber of commerce .
The outing was an opportunity for members to combine networking with meeting up with old friends. The main Chamber president, John Connolly was on hand to meet and great new and old attendees.
Castleknock parish leaves for pastures new.
Reverend Andew Orr, announced that he will be leaving St Brigids Church of Ireland, Castleknock as soon as his final service finished to take up a new position as Rector in St Columba's Church, Tullow.
The final service last Sunday was packed as Rev Orr said goodbye to a packed house and to send his thanks to all locals in the parish. A farewell lunch was organized afterwards in Castleknock Parish centre..
Sports-Castleknock summer camp starts next month.
