Properties to buy/let in Castleknock

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

The local property scene in Castleknock is quiet at the moment.  They say it is a renter's market but there sure is a lot of vacant residential and commercial units out there to rent,  judging by recent signs in estates.

There are plenty of properties to buy/rent in Castleknock but renters now want better value for money and such is the reluctance of people to spend money that landlords are  forced to go to letting agents or local council  before they could let the property themselves.  Construction companies are not going through with new projects as the money is harder to find from banks and also the slowdown in the economy.

One such quiet estate agent is Flynn & Associates estate agents. Flynn Associates has been located in the Ashleigh Center in Castleknock for 20 years and has been around in recessionary times such as the 1980s in Ireland. If you want to contact Flynn associates, then please call 018211311 or email Jim Flynn at info@flynnassociates.ie.

Another local Castleknock estate agent feeling the pinch is Sherry Fitzgerald located in the main Castleknock shopping center.  Sherry has been located in Castleknock village since 1999 and cover all of Dublin 15 and parts of D7 also. Sherry are open from 9-6pm Monday to Fri.

According to a recent survey carried out by PAN research, the survey results showed that more buyers felt that it was a good time to buy. An estimated 63% felt it was a suitable time to buy  and were satisfied that they could get a negotiable price. According to another recent survey, statistics show that house prices are at least 40% down since this time last year.

Who knows how much more the market for property might go down, but now might be a good time to start looking.

Weekly Digest of Castleknock news

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Hi Folks, here is last weeks round up of the best local news from Castleknock;

Election results round up

It was celebration's all round for the Socialist party and it's main party leader Joe Higgins as Dublin 15 voted in favour of the left of centre party and its policies.

In total, both opposition parties to the main party currently in power, Fianna Fail, , Labour and the Socialist's reflected the Irish public's feeling about how the economy in the country is going.

Both of the opposition parties to FF walked to vistory with 3 seats between them in Mulhuddart Council Ward.

The Socialist Party sitting Councillor, Ruth Coppinger commented after her vistory that the result was 'a verdict on what is being done to local people'.

The other main surprise was Fianna Gael taking a seat for the first time in 1991 in the Mulhuddart ward with Kieran Dennison polling 12.3% of first preference votes. Labour councilor Michael O'Donovan retained his seat with 1696 votes, while his running mate, Patrick Nulty, topped the poll with 1898 first preference votes.

Castleknock Educate Together celebrate Summer fair fun

This years annual Summer Fair fundraising event for the community school running costs in aid of Castleknock Educate Together will celebrate international cultures.

The event will be held on June 21st, the longest day of the year, to coincide with Father's Day. Last year, the school raised a fantastic 7,000 Euros and hope to exceed that amount this year. According to a Educate spokesperson at the school, 'For children, there will be workshops and bouncy castles. We try to get folks involved so there will be a woman from Pakistan giving tattoos, African woman offering hair beading, and other fun games. We have 32 nationalities at the school, which is something that we are very proud of'.

Roderic O'Gorman fails to take Castleknock seat.

Roderic O'Gorman, the Green Party representative for the Castleknock ward, failed to take the Fingal county council seat in the local elections.

However, O'Gorman was very gracious in his defeat, thanking all of his canvessing team and supporters in his local election's camapign. 'I want to thank all those who voted for me in Friday's local elections in the Castleknock ward', O'Gorman wrote on his site last week. He added 'Obviously, I am deeply disappointed that I failed to win the seat on this occassion. I take comfort in the fact that I almost doubled my share of first preference votes, and on the final count ,I was only 600 votes short of taking a seat'.

He went on to say that 'I think the fact that the Green party failed to win any seats in Fingal county council is worrying. The need for proper planning is the reason that I stood for Election in the first place and I intend to continue on this and other issues as a member of my party over the next few years'.

Daily Digest: 3 Tips to avoid blog legal probelms

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

I received a very annoyed email a few days ago from a contact of mine who I shall remain annoymous about an blog post that I put up about his company.

The man, who has a company in Castleknock had been in contact before a few weeks ago about putting an ad in the main home page on this site. Unfortunately the ad was not placed and there was no deal done due to a case of mis-communication. Maybe that is a good idea for my next related blog post. But on this occassion, nothing went ahead.

Now the same man emailed me to put his feelings in the subject box. I knew that this was a bad sign. It turns out, I had mentioned in a blog post published a few weeks earlier that the man's company was just new. That was inaccurate, and had I taken the time to do my own research on the company before ringing them to check, I would have discovered that the company were well established over a 20 year period.

The man wanted an immediate apology on his behalf and the post itself immediately cleared up or I would see him in the courts. So I had learned a valuable lesson. I had to email back an apology and edit the blog piece with a footnote to say that I had not researched the post properly.

Although I am relatively new to the blogging game, it was a great lesson to learn and one I wouldn't forget for a while. It is worth repeating here again for newbie bloggers like myself to check your facts before posting for legal reasons.
