"There may be trouble ahead..." so the tune sung as the elderly gentleman gracefully tinkled the the ivories on the grand old piano as the mood seems laid back.
To celebrate my mums birthday, the family went out to Brassiere 15, the newest hot spot in Castle knock Village. The recession may be on but you would not know given the big crowds frequenting this place.
Welcome to Brasserie 15, the new word in late night supper club cool. The Brassiere 15 layout is very modern and glamorous with all the style of a themed restaurant. We ordered the early bird menu as the special offer was 25 per person, which was good value.
I ordered the Crispy Calamari soup with shrimp and the other favorites ordered were Tiger Prawns with a Garlic Mayonnaise. This was an excellent starters, the calamari was light and crispy with full flavor, with just the right amount of mayonnaise sauce to accompany it. My mothers starter was the Cantaloupe Melon with Sorbet. This was juicy in flavor, while the other starters such as the Savory Meatballs with a Spicy Garlic Tomato Sauce were nice too with a lovely presentation. What most impressed me about these signature dishes were their creative and graceful presentation, which earned in chef working there my full respect. I also enjoyed the piano mans performance on the piano and even draw a good compliment from my man and a clap from him in appreciation.
One thing that I noticed was the crowds were biggest when we arrived before 7.30. This led me to believe that they were all here for the early bird option also. The place was very empty by the time we left at 9pm.
The main courses included Saute of Beef with Cashew Nuts; Chillies, Fillet Steak on the Stone, and Rainbow Trout Almond.
The Beef was described on the menu as Julienne of Beef Fillet sauteed with Spring Onions, Toasted Cashews and a Sweet Chilly Sauce". This description was lived up to, as the consensus was the beef was well cooked and flavorsome. The mix of cashew nuts and chili sauce went well. I ordered the Rainbow Trout which was according to the menu Delicious Fresh Rainbow Trout Grilled and topped with an Almond infused Butter. I felt the fish was very presented with a depth and texture which served it well as a partner with the melted butter and almond flavor. The other popular dish was the "Fillet Steak on the Stone". I like this dish as it was presented on a little frying area where the eater can cook the meat themselves. The wine was a house special, a Shiraz and Savignon Blanc.
Overall, The party was happy with the experience. The bill came to 197 euros which was for 6 people so it was reasonable value considering the number present. The added on service charge came to 10% as there were 6 people at the table. For more details about the restaurant, prices and the menu special, please log onto brasserie 15.com. A recommended experience.
